American guitarist Walter Lure died in New York. He had been diagnosed with liver and lung cancer and died today.
Walter Lure was a band member of Johnny Thunders, former guitarist for the band New York Dolls, recorded the band's only album released in 1978 L.A.M.F.
Walter Lure had an unconventional post-Heartbreakers career, working as a stockbroker on Wall Street. However, music continued to be a big part of his life, he eventually had guest appearances playing guitar on Ramones' albums, Subterranean Jungle and Too Tough to Die.
He still performed in New York City some weekends of the year and did an international tour once or twice a year. Despite staying clean and adopting a healthier lifestyle, Walter's early years of substance use finally caught up with him. Walter was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer in July 2020, which spread quickly and unfortunately he went from cancer-related complications on August 21, 2020, at the age of 71.
He died peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by his family.
