Van Halen: Eddie Van Halen passed away after a long battle with throat cancer

 

TMZ learns that Eddie Van Halen, the legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, died after a long battle with throat cancer.

Sources directly linked to the rock star told the website: "He died at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, Tuesday. His wife, Janie, was at his side. In the past 72 hours, Eddie's health battle went downhill. As is known, Eddie has been battling cancer for over a decade. TMZ sources say he has been in and out of the hospital several times in the past year, including last November due to intestinal problems, and recently underwent a round of chemotherapy."
