Guilherme: And today is the day of a new review my friends! So Kebras, what are we going to review today?
Kebras: Today we’re reviewing an album called Dirty Clean Sexy Mean from the band Echo Strike, and I have to say that I really like this name! It’s an earworm, stays on the head! The main thing that caught my attention on this album was how dynamic it is. You have fast animated songs, you have slow and moody songs, you have touches on different styles of music but with the same core elements which represents the identity of the band.
Guilherme: Great! So now let's go for the analyzis of the songs!
Kebras: Bad Intentions – that’s a great song to open the album with! Opens up to what the band is about. Loved the bassline, the background funky guitar rhythm and the way they used the backvocals.
Guilherme: Dangerous Woman - This song caught my attention because of the drums groove, and the guitar riffs were also incredible by the way.
Kebras: 1978 – this song is a XXI century boogie. Great how they got the vibe and the instrumental of a 70’s based music style and re-did it on a totally modern fashion.
Guilherme: Work to Do - This is my favorite song of the album! It sounds different from the other songs! They have also used an acoustic guitar, and it makes me remember some Oasis songs, and I suppose that they used Oasis as an influence in this one.
Kebras: SCOM cover – it’s like a modern electro-boogie version of the song. The vibe is the same, but they rearranged the song in a way which suits perfectly their identity, loved it!
Guilherme: Her Smile - This song also caught my attention because of the harmony progression idea. They have used an simple sequence on the key of Bb. They picked the Circle of fourths and put the chords in the same order of the circle, and they developed very good melodical ideas on the guitar and the vocals inside the harmony.
Kebras: Making the jive – my favorite song of the album! Absolutely love the vocal melody of this track. The funky guitar rhythm, bassline and drum beat lock perfectly, and the way the progressions are made keep it very interesting along the song.
Guilherme: And also they have an videoclip of this song! And I totally recommend you to watch it on YouTube!
Kebras: Everything hums – loved the lyrics and the uplifting feel of the song. Very nice groove and melody.
